Hello this easy tutorial will help you to create amazing effects and wonderful quality in your project. And this tutorial will help you to understand how to using the color system in a comp to improve the quality and showing more color range by increase the bits per channel. The resulte will be amazing such us the Glow effect, lights and more. Especially if you haven’t used high colore depth before so let’s start.
Understanding the Color depth
Color depth or bit depth is the number of bits per channel (bpc) used to represent the color of a pixel. Channels contain color information: RGB images have channels for red, green, and blue. The more bits per channel, the more colors can be represented. In AE you can work in 8-bpc, 16-bpc or 32-bpc color mode for each project. Even if your output is 8-bpc (Millions Of Colors), you can obtain better rendering quality by having the project (or render) color depth set at 16-bpc or 32-bpc because of the added precision achieved by calculating color values at higher bit depths. if you want to know more about this system and how it’s work visit this link.
Tip 16-Step One – prepare your comp
Create a new composition 360*288 with 25 fps and limit the duration to a few seconds to speed up processing and previewing times. Basically we will start to use the high color depth but I prefer to use it in last step especially if have a complicated project so go to File –> Project Settings change the color depth from 8 bit per channel to 32 bit per channel.
Step two – Import files
First you will need a big image such as JPG, HDR or any kind of images will do but if you use HDR, it will give you best quality because it’s work perfect with 32-
Step three – apply effects
The HDR images are rich in color range and very dynamic so you can easy change the level of color. First Curves then Levels and you can apply Glow effect to look more shiny. Select layer go to (Effect –> Color Correction –> Curves) change it as in this figure and you will need to change the level so go to (Effect –> Color Correction –> Levels).
Step four – animate your image layer
In timeline select image layer and hit on keyboard ‘P’ key to show the layer position keyframes then hit ‘shift + S’ keys to show you scale keyframe with position. Start adding key frames and move the layer from right then ending with the lift in the timeline. this figure may help you.
Step five – add your text
You can import an alpha image or illustrator like text or you can write directly in AE, goto (Layer –> New –> Text) then write your message in this tutorials we add two text layers at the beginning and at the end like as this screen shot.
Make each of the text layer parent to the animated image layer by drag the parent icon to the image layer. And the resone to make it child to the image layer that is we already animated the image layer so the new text layers will follow their parent
Glow is very useful in 32-bpc project and it’s very sensitive with the color. So you can apply glow effect for the text layer goto (effect –> Simulation –> Glow)
The Final step
After you apply your effects you can rendering your projects and the final render will be like below.
